Here is the sponsor information sheet I prepared:
I have rented a condo in Las Vegas for all of June and July 2008 as I did last year. It was my plan to play about $10,000 worth of tournaments and spend the rest of my time playing cash games (again, same as I did last year). However, with all of the additional tournaments taking place this year I felt there would be an advantage to playing more tournaments and spending less time on the cash games. In order to do that I am looking to increase my bankroll and use it to concentrate on playing those tournaments where I feel I have the best chance.
Last year I played four WSOP events and I cashed in two of them:
28-Jun-07 $ 1,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better
38th World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2007, Las Vegas: 23rd out of 668 entries, earned $5,106
25-Jun-07 $ 1,000 World Championship Seniors No Limit Hold'em
38th World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2007, Las Vegas: 140th out of 1882 entries, earned $2,226

I have been playing a lot of small online tournaments since the end of the 2007 WSOP. I have probably played 200 - 300 single table sit n goes at Full Tilt. I use these small tournaments to try out different strategies and test which seem to work. For example, I might play one super tight, then play one loose, then maybe play one where I make oversized continuation bets versus a normal three quarters to pot sized bet, then one where I play super tight upfront and super loose in late position, then one where I always raise the pre-flop raiser if he bets the flop (he usually has nothing and is just making a continuation bet), and so on with a lot of other variations. Despite all this experimenting, I have done great, almost always cashing in the 10 player sit n goes (top 3 finishers are paid).
I have also played a few small live tournaments. Mainly at the Hustler's $255 nightly deep stack no limit tournaments. Although I have only played about 6 of these this year, I bubbled once, came in 13th once and got 2nd place on a 3 way chop (paid $6,200 although it was reported as $4,875 for 2nd place).
I feel these experiences have elevated my no limit game to a new high and given me the confidence to win.
There are a lot of tournaments taking place in Las Vegas in May through July 2008, both at the 2008 World Series of Poker, and at Caesar's Palace, The Wynn, The Venetian, Binion's Gambling Hall, The Golden Nugget and others. Many of those are very small (under $500) and I will probably not play any of them (if I do they will be included in the agreement). I also am not likely to play any of the larger events (over $3,000) as I am trying to stretch the bankroll and get as much play as possible from it. I may play some of these larger events as well as the $10,000 main event if I book some wins along the way so the bankroll can afford it. So, for the most part I will be concentrating on tournaments with a buy-in of about $1,000 to $3,000. It is difficult to say exactly which tournaments I will play as I may not feel in top shape on a particular day, or I may have conflicts if I get to day 2 or 3 of a prior tournament, or I may simple get burned out and a need a few days to regroup. But I can assure you that I will only play when I feel I have a real chance. That being said, there are a few tournaments I will almost certainly play. I have marked up some attached tournament schedules showing those and highlighting others that are likely and still others that are possible depending on bankroll status.
The tournaments I most likely will play are:
Sat, May 31 at 12:00 PM Event #2 - WSOP No Limit Hold'em $1,500 Notes: 4 Day Event
- Mon, Jun 23 at 12:00 PM Event #42 - WSOP Seniors - No Limit Hold'em World Championship $1,000 Notes: 3 Day Event (I cashed in this last year)
- Thu, Jun 26 at 5:00 PM Event #47 - WSOP 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo 8 or Better $1,500 Notes: 3 Day Event (I cashed in this last year)
- Sat 7/5 $1080 The Grand Finale (Golden Nugget) Notes: 15,000 starting tournament chips
- Either Mon, July 7 12PM #43 - No-Limit Hold'em (Binion's Championship Event) $1,920+80 Notes: 25,000 starting tournament chips 60 min levels or Mon, July 7 12PM Caesars Palace Mega Stack Series Championship $1060
Although getting to the top few spots is something of a "crapshoot" due to the structure of tournaments as the blinds and antes increase so fast near the end of a tournament, getting to that point, to have a shot at the "crapshoot" takes skill. I am confident I can get us "to the dance" and with some luck maybe we can take our date all the way home.
